Omar tomaino
Photographer and videomaker, first driven by passion and later by profession. He embraced photography at the age of thirty, inspired by the works of the photographer and documentarist Yann Arthus-Bertrand, whose environmentalist spirit he shares. He further deepened his knowledge as a self-taught learner, exploring the works of photographers such as Sebastião Salgado, Fan-Ho, Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Gordon Parks, Duane Michals, Martine Franck, Ferdinando Scianna, Valerio Bispuri, Letizia Battaglia. From them, he seeks to grasp not only the technical aspects of photography but, above all, those connected to the intrinsic narrative of their photographs—the essence that truly defines the quality of a photographer's eye.
Guided by his empathetic nature, he soon collaborates with Luca Scarcella (a freelance journalist contributing to The Wall Street Journal, L'Espresso, la Repubblica, Wired) on the realization of the reportage "Hidden Superheroes" (2017), illustrating the current situation of homelessness in Italy. Subsequently, he contributes to the journalistic project "Into the Migrants' Eyes" (2020), addressing issues related to the migration phenomenon from its inception to the present day, featuring interviews and firsthand stories of migrants. In 2018, he publishes "Zoe - The Meaning of Life," a personal and independent photographic project that explores the deeper aspects of our existence. In 2019, he participates in the #daniElasuasquadra project supported by Just The Woman I Am, Torino Donna, and the Italian Basketball Federation. This project emerged from the need to narrate and shed light on the difficulties faced by those dealing with diseases such as breast cancer. In 2020, he collaborates with Fujifilm to promote the editorial project "Childfood – Recipes for Young Culinary Explorers," which is not just a cookbook but a social initiative blending education and entertainment. In the same year, he starts a collaboration with the dancer and choreographer Rebecca Moriondo, with whom he shoots the short film m³. So far, he has also worked for La Stampa, Fineco, and brands such as Lavazza and Breguet. In every project he undertakes, from portraiture to reportage, from personal branding to brand storytelling, his main objective is to narrate the best story through images—the one that engages and endures over time. |
